What would a good counter to this ubiquitous public staple be? My WW Barb tends to chew them up as long as they don't land their chargelocks. I'm interested in making a 28-30 Smiter but how would that fair against a bad-mediocre charger?
Maybe a BM Smiter with holy freeze and slow (found an interesting guide on the LLD forum)?

deuterium|||why bother, they're not that tough. 75% block makes them lose most of the time.|||This will still be a tough machup against a good regen charger, and boring as hell to play (stand still, hold shift+lmb, wait for charger). Statistically speaking, you just have to beat the charger before he gets off 4 charges. Other builds do better here, (amazon has 75% block + evade skills, conc barb has high defence) as there's an even smaller chance for the charger to hit.
There's a good LLD smiter guide here. It's lvl 18, but offers a good idea of the primary options for a smiter (either recharge or high defense, high defense being the best option vs. chargers). something like this should do:
lvl 30 (41 sp with hell rush):
20 smite
6 holy shield
15 defiance
str: enough for gear
dex: enough for max block
vit: everything else
Gear (more or less cheap - there are better options):
weapon: +3 smite honor RW scepter
shield: Upped Swordback hold (shael or eld, don't have the faster block BPs handy)
Armour: upped Hawkmail (eth if possible) with pruby
helm: exceptional ethereal lore RW helm
gloves: Sigons (3 sigons parts means +100 defence)
Belt: Sigons
Boots: Sigons
jewelry: angelics for extra life and dex (smite doesn't need ar), though +stat rings and ammy are ok too (possible +1 to pally skills ammy)
on switch (prebuff gear for Holy shield):
honor rw +3 HS scepter
spirit shield|||smite is perhaps the ****tiest skill to try and kill a regen charger with. it does very little damage, ow still isnt enough to outpace regen, and you even advocate waiting on the charger to hit you. how the hell are you going to kill a charger with smite before he charges 4 times?|||That's a really different build kardinaal, interesting. I should hasten to add that this isn't purely to thwart chargers, it just seems they are the most common pub builds. I'm between this or a hammerdin, as I have my hell rushed pala and parts of the gear for both builds. The hammerdin would be cheaper for me as I wouldn't need dmg/ar/life gcs.
I'm leaning towards the Smiter at the moment purely because I like the uninterruptable, unblockable damage with crushing blow. Worse comes to the worst I can respec.|||they may be prolific, but most aren't any good.|||125 fcr hammerdin with max block...|||Bone necro works as well. If you can get a good head + wand + amu + circ they deal lots of dmg in a short time. Jam your character in that small space in between two mud puddles so he can't pry you out then spam those spears and spirits

any sorc with a cold armor
sin with claw block
bone necro with bone armor, bone wall
hammerdin is by far the easiest as well, just make him charge you from above
