Melee nerfed too much?

They can have max block (75% damage reduction)

They can have Max Dr (50% damage reduction )

They can have defense ( up to 95% damage reduction )

Is this fair? |||Hard to say.

Considering when a lot of guys are paladin hammerdins or auradins it seems to matter little.|||nope, nothing is fair.|||Are elemental attacks nerfed too much?

They can be resisted up to 75%

They can be resisted up to 95% with good gear

They can be absorbed

Are magic attacks nerfed too much?

They either have:

a) low damage, e.g. Bone necro

b) a projectile that's not suited for PvP, e.g. Hammerdin

BvC is still one of the strongest duelers out there.|||Quote:

These are not mutually exclusives, they are the same way to reduce damage ( resistance ). |||Quote:

That was my point, melee attacks are no less effective than any other attacks.

I think the reason why most melee attackers are not viable in PvP is not because they can be blocked/reduced/require AR, but rather that the skill itself is not as versatile as others. That is why you see WW barbs owning it up while Zealots/Smiters/SS druids/kickers/Chargers/etc are not top-tier.|||Quote:

a) low damage?? 800-1000 pvp non absorable damage is not low. thats why bonners are top duelers

b) not suited for pvp? they are one of the top duellers. most people consider them overpowered (including me)|||Melee = TOP Gear Needed for Success

Elemental Casting = Naked Sorceress can beat TOP Geat Meleer

And it's funny how UberB explained the only two Imba Characters as Weak... ^_o|||Quote:

OK, first of all a naked sorceress is not going to beat a top gear meleer.

I'll say it again: melee suffers no more than any other form of damage. Let's take a look:

Melee:

1. Can be blocked 75% of the time. This requires a significant dex investment for most chars.

2. Can be resisted up to 50%

3. Requires AR to hit, can miss up to 95% of the time (this is not practical because any decent melee character will have good AR)

Elemental:

1. Can be resisted up to 95%

2. Can be absorbed up to 40%

3. With a combination of high resists and absorb, can do zero damage or even heal people.

I don't think anyone will complain that melee is "nerfed" more than elemental attacks. In fact this is the reason why physical damage chars are so much more viable in pubs. Why then can bowzons, barbs and to a lesser extent wind druids be such staples in team PvP?

As for magic damage, there are two chars that come to mind: bone necro and hammerdin. The former ends up with ~4k spear/spirit damage, which is quite low compared to the other classes. The latter can have 10k+ hammer damage but as we all know, the hammer projectile itself is not that good for PvP because it has a fixed swinging pattern and Hammerdin needs to get close to hit enemies and he has no stun.

I'll concede that many melee chars are not as viable as casters, e.g. smiter/frenzy/kicksin/shapeshift druid (although you probably could make a case for tele-smiter). This however is not because physical damage is underpowered but rather that the actual skill is not suitable for PvP. The BvC is a great example of a strong melee PvP char because of high life, strong BO, dual wield, a counter to minion stack and a powerful melee attack that can move at the same time.|||Bone necs can get 5K ish if they get decked out. Since it's magical though, it's still a strong source, even with that low number (not cut by 3/4 like others anyway).

I'll concede that melee isn't as versatile as a bvc most of the time, but I have to disagree on the kicksin. They're a good caster killer (stuns like a ghost would, so functions like a bvc already), and is still suited for melee duels well enough (they work better vs WW chars though).
