Easy and Cheap First-ever PvP Char?

Hey guys,

I've been playing d2 on and off for a while now (started in 1.08), but always PvM. My most recent re-start was prompted by the belief that a ladder reset would spice things up a bit, but I'm not sure if that's coming anytime soon so I figured I might try PvP for once.

Any good suggestions for an easy-to-play (I'm still using F1-F8 hotkeys I'm afraid) and relatively cheap-to-fund (I can probably rustle up 5-7 HRs worth of equipment) generalist character? Being able to actually win occasionally is a plus too =P.

Somewhat cookie-cutter is fine, although I've no interest in making a hammerdin. Also, as I play non-ladder, assume I only have access to NL items. Links to guides are appreciated.

Thanks!|||you can try to use a charger with grief ( that's pretty much all of his equip... ) with some items ( like vipers ss, other items :S )

trap-assassin can be easy too, all you need to do is shop anya for couple of days with char lvl 90+ to get 2 claws with 5/6 lighting sentry claws, treachery and other items if you wish. pretty cheap, but shopping anya is sure annoying.

i ll post more tomorrow, gotta go now.|||Grief is a Ladder-only RW.

I have nothing else of value to add because I suck horribly at PvP. |||You can try a pure smiter. I dabble in pvp with my Zsmiter and he's pretty efficient.

max smite

max fana

max holyshield

max defiance

rest into charge

A cheap Grief goes for about 3-4 hrs on NL|||a fire sorc can be built for CHEAP. a 105%FCR/max-block model uses all off the shelf, easy to get equipment. looky HERE!

just FYI: the really BIG costs associated with PvP characters are ALWAYS in the Charmset. nice dual-mod SCs and lifer skill GCs generally don't come cheap. by and large, unless your character has a dependency on top notch Rare items (like a ww-sin kind of needs a funky rare fools claw), you can generally kit out a 'toon with serviceable equipment fairly cheaply. top notch charms are where you drop big pixels.|||I think any char can be cheap if you just go with basic gear.

fire sorc - hoto, spirit, shako, magefists, arachnid

pnb necro - wizzy, spirit, shako, magefists, arachnid, enigma

trang poison necro can be fun and quite affordable, the hard part is to get death web and pnb gc with 7frw mod, non perfect poison facets are usually only worth pgems.

plain skillers and lifer scs are much cheaper than lifer skillers and life/res scs.|||i vote for trang necro. best builded will be much cheaper then any of aboved mentioned chars which can go to stratosphere with price|||bone nec would be my choice. relatively cheap one can win with MANY. it's very fun to play. it's NOT the easiest char you can get, but easy chars are just not interesting. this one is challenging for you as well as for your opponent

just like Alphaz said: wizzy, spirit, shako, magefists, arachnid, enigma. Add few plain skillers, torch, few life charms and you're set. You WILL die after 2 hits from other chars. The point is not to let it happen. When you learn how to play this char you'll be able to win with much more expensive characters

btw, pure vita is cheaper but you will have harder time with barbs smiters and amazons. I've made myself a max block nec when I had similar amount of money as you. Worked out pretty well|||i started off with a 50/50 maxblock Blizz sorc back then.

i found it to be much fun to begin with because its effective damage isnt THAT item dependant and its quite good to learn pvp because you have to chase foes whereas you neednt with fire sorc, for example.

however, i claim fire sorc, boner (only with at leat mid-decent amu/circ), stormer (pretty boring one i think), trap assa (no great skill required), foh pala (lame), smiter (lame) to also be sufficient.|||Quote:

Same here lol it pretty much all I ever need because I am always PvM as well, was lookin for builds and I think I might attempt a smiter.

That way, if I can't get used to PvP I will then have a character that can do ubers solo.
