I got stomped recently by my friends Blizz sorc. I was using a bone necro with 1 raven frost + buffed with thawing potion, YET he wasted me with the insane blizz dmg.
So I just wonder how do I protect myself better against those fathal sorcs?
I know that i Can use 2 x Raven frost, But is there any other tips?
Or do I just have to play defensive and keep the distance?|||there's two ways to not die in one hit, neither of which is particularly GM:
1) dual ravenfrost as you mentioned
2) stacking mass ammounts of frost resist to counter cold mastery.
If you can get around 400 total frost resist from gear you can cancel out the -resist effects of cold mastery, and the blizzard won't do much damage at all. You'd probably need a frost jewel'd wizardspike, frost jewel'd kira's, etc, to get this high.
the other tip is this:
don't ever run/walk, only teleport. If you move while under a blizzard you pretty much die instantly, but if you're standing still it often doesn't hit. blizzard is weird in that it's far more likely to hit moving targets. so make sure you never run, only teleport.|||Check out guides' stragegy section on how various chars deal with blizz sorcs. It'll give you an idea. Basically ravens, 4psaphire monarchs etc do the trick.|||blizzys rely on shredding your cold resists to get their damage up.
load up on massive amounts of extra cold res. my smiter switches his HoZ for a 109% res Sanctuary shield, the waterwalks for some cold/lit-res rares and the non-ravenfrost for a cold-res/life ring. then i still need Salvation and, sometimes, thaw pots to keep my res up against a tricked out blizzy.
all the 'sorb in the world won't save you from that first hit.|||yep, stacking resist is the key of surviving blizzard.|||A 4 socket shield with 4 perf saphires is one of the best ways to get high cold res... 400 cold resist stacked is needed to negate cold mastery and facets...
Don't rely on sorb to survive blizz... The sorb happens after damage is taken... If your resists aren't high enough, you're dead before the sorb comes into play...
Sorb does help a ton if you can tank a hit though... Wearing 2 ravens won't save you from being 1 hitted but they will help you survive the 2nd...|||Save And Exit.|||Quote:

that's a bit inaccurate to my knowledge, as it suggest that sorb is useless for the first hit.
the damage order is res, sorb %, sorb (integer) afaik.
the sorb % works that way, that first the "healing part" of the sorb comes into play (i.e. you have 20% abs, 0 res, and you are attacked by a 1000dmg blizzard, you heal 200 hp).
then the "subtraction part" of the sorb works (since you were healed by 20%, you will only receive 80% of the original dmg --> 1000 is reduced to 800 dmg).
usually this adds up to an effective dmg reduction of 40% (in the example mentioned above: +200 hp, - 800 hp --> - 600 hp).
however, if you already have full hp, the "healing part" doesnt do you any good. that is why the feared first hit does more dmg than the following ones.
the "subtraction part" however, still works to full extent.
therefore the sorb helps even with the first hit, it is just not as effective as it is for the following hits.|||in any event, it's resists you need more than cold sorb when fighting a blizz sork.
my smiter can pile on a truly frightening amount of extra cold res when fighting a blizzy or orber.
it does me a lot more good than having crappy res, 2x ravens and a Blackoak Luna.
hint: Thawing Pots from a merchant give an extra 50% (?) cold res along with +10% max cold res.|||Quote:

So the only way to fight against a Blizz sorc is BM?
